ABOUT US

History of Rock Spring Missionary Baptist Church
The Rock Spring Baptist Church was organized on the first Saturday in September, in the year of our Lord, 1911.  The church began as an offspring of Rock Creek Baptist Church after Deacon Jim Kelly purchased the church plot from a land owner for $1.00.

The first church services were held under the big oak tree (still standing) near the road, until a small "A" frame structure was built. The original structure stood until the 1920's. Deacons Ide Smith, Howard Kelly, and others rebuilt the structure that we currently occupy.
Also, there was a school that occupied a parcel of the current church property. Deacons:  Nelson Kelly, Sam Kelly, and Leroy Smith were instrumental in the purchase of the old school.  They negotiated with the Jasper County Board of Education and after paying for the survey, the church purchased the deed to the parcel.  Thus, that parcel became an addition to the church in the early 1980's.

The first officers were:  Deacon Jordan Kelly, Deacon Isiah Benton, and Deacon Jim Kelly.  In addition, Deacon Jim Kelly served as the first chairman of the Deacon Board.  The dedication of the church took place on the first Sunday in April 1912.  Reverend A. Aron was the first pastor and was the spiritual leader for two years.  From 1911 through 2012, Rock Spring has had eighteen pastors.

In 1994, the church was renamed, "Rock Spring Missionary Baptist Church".
